I Used ChatGPT (Every Day) for 5 Months as a Product Manager. Here Are Some Hidden Gems That Will Change Your Life
Hi,
I am working as a Product Manager in the Growth Division of a SaaS startup. Since I started using chatGPT for my daily work, there’s no going back. Tasks that used to take me a week to complete can now be done in just three days, thanks to the power of AI.
In this article, I will share 13 impactful ways in which I leverage ChatGPT in my daily work as a Product Manager. You can also use these methods to streamline your product development process.
Additionally, I will provide you with valuable resources, a handy cheat sheet, and prompts to make your life easier.
So, buckle up, and let’s dive into the world of ChatGPT!
Let’s dive into the 12 use-cases
The feature development lifecycle encompasses several stages, and at each step, a Product Manager must apply their skill set to clear the level. These stages include analyzing analytics, conducting competitor analysis, formulating hypotheses, framing user research questions, outlining Product Requirement Documents (PRDs), addressing edge cases, launching the product, and collecting and analyzing feedback. It’s an extensive and often exhausting process that requires different skill sets for each task.
Let’s explore how ChatGPT can assist in each of these areas:
ChatGPT Boosting Product Manager Efficiency with Real-Life Examples
To illustrate the application of ChatGPT, I will use a recent real-life example of a feature I worked on: a comprehensive “refer and earn” feature for D2C Brands on WhatsApp ChatBot.
- Summarizer: I frequently ask ChatGPT to provide a summary of an article within a specific word count. This makes my research part quicker; before spending 10 minutes reading an article, I get to know if it’s even worth reading. Trust me; it’s so addictive that now I cannot live without it.
2. Getting a Second Opinion: Having a professional writer double-check your written work to ensure it’s free from errors is super helpful for me. Earlier, I used to worry a lot read a document multiple times before putting it out in public, which was time-consuming. But now, I use ChatGPT to review my product docs and provide valuable suggestions for improvement.
3. Drafting Mail: Get help writing content or finetuning emails to ensure they’re polished and effective. For instance, I ask ChatGPT to assist me in crafting an email about a feature X that does Y and is unique because of Z, and how it can help the client.
4. Survey Question Generator: Before going on client calls, maybe sales or success calls, I know whom I am meeting. I quickly go to their LinkedIn profile and their e-commerce website. Feed the links to ChatGPT and ask it to analyze the user profile to suggest relevant questions to ask during the call. This can actually help me to solidify or reject my hypothesis. Trust me, the same problem is perceived via different lenses by different stakeholders. For example, a marketing head looks at WhatsApp as a tool to send marketing campaigns, while a support head looks at it as a medium to improve user satisfaction.
5. Hypothesis Generation: I usually prompt ChatGPT to act as a senior product manager to have a conversation with me. This helps me frame my hypothesis around the problem better.
6. PRD Outline: I start with the user persona and problem in mind and then ask ChatGPT to structure the PRD, which I then detail out.
7. PRD Feedback: Once the detailing part is done, I again feed it back to ChatGPT and ask it to review, give feedback on possible edge cases which I might have missed, and what could be done in the future to make this even better.
8. Feedback Analyzer: Have a bunch of customer feedback? Make sense of that data using ChatGPT. Request ChatGPT to create segments based on problems and provide qualitative and quantitative analysis for each segment.
9. ChatGPT for Google: Want to save time on your Google searches? Use the power of ChatGPT side by side. I use a Chrome Extension called Merlin, powered by ChatGPT, to look at ChatGPT results while browsing Google. PS — It’s developed by one of my college seniors, and I love using it.
10. MOM Taker: All-day meetings are a part of the daily life of a Product Manager. I use a plugin called TL;DV which records, summarizes, and gives me a summary of the meeting on my Slack.
11. Documentation: Creating client and internal team-facing documentation is time-consuming. Earlier, it used to take a day to make such documentation, but now, with ChatGPT capabilities, I just feed it the PRD and other relevant documents and ask it to create one for me.
12. API Checker: It sucks when you have to go through badly written API documentation. With ChatGPT’s help, I can now browse through full API docs and fetch the relevant API endpoints in minutes.
These real-life examples demonstrate the practical application of ChatGPT in boosting productivity and efficiency for Product Managers. By incorporating these use cases into your daily work, you can streamline your product development process and achieve better outcomes.
